Full Skin Check

Why get a full skin check (FSC)?

It’s important to get to know your skin and what is normal for you. Skin cancers rarely hurt and are much more frequently seen than felt. Skin cancers often happen in areas not readily visible.

Full skin examination is the standard care for detection of all cutaneous malignancies. Dermoscopy, a magnifying instrument, allows detailed examination of the colours and structures of skin lesions that are not visible to the naked eye. In experienced hands, demoscopy aided skin checks provide improved diagnostic accuracy for melanoma, skin cancers and benign lesions.

What does it entail?

Your doctor will do a physical examination to check all parts of your skin including your hands and feet, inside your mouth and nose and your scalp. They use the latest dermoscope to refine their diagnosis. If they find something suspicious they’ll recommend you have a biopsy. They may also decide to take a photo and follow up the spot at a later date.

Digital Dermoscopic Photography

A skin lesion may appear atypical but fall short of the criterias of being a malignant melanoma, your doctor may decide to take a high resolution dermoscopy photo. Another photo is taken in 3 months time to compare side by side with the first one.

The use of this technique has been shown to improve the diagnostic accuracy for the detection of early melanoma as well as a reduction in excising benign moles.
